The New Airdrie Public Library Might Be My New Favorite Maternity Session Location

The second I walked into the new Airdrie Public Library, I just knew I needed to photograph there someday. The architecture, the soft natural light, the warm wood tones, the modern details… it honestly feels like something straight out of a design magazine. Every corner is absolutely stunning.

Originally, my plan was actually to do a session there with Jasper because I was SO inspired after our first visit. But if you’re a photographer parent, you already know the struggle of having a child with full-blown #photographerchildsyndrome 😂 The more I want him to look at the camera, the less interested he becomes.

So instead, I ended up photographing Brooke’s gorgeous maternity session there and WOW… it was seriously what dreams were made of.

The library gave us the perfect mix of modern architecture, soft light, and unique textures, and we decided to fully lean into different looks throughout the session by using three gowns from my client closet.

The first look was this stunning off-the-shoulder red gown and honestly… I’m obsessed. The bold red was such a perfect POP against the clean neutral architecture, especially out on the patio where the red accents tied everything together so perfectly. It felt elegant, dramatic, and powerful all at once.

For the second look, we went with a soft pink sequin gown for a more feminine, girly vibe for this sweet girl mom-to-be. The sparkle paired with all the airy light inside the library gave the dreamiest glow and made the entire session feel soft and romantic.

And then of course… the velvet green gown made an appearance because this dress truly looks PERFECT everywhere. It’s one of my forever favorites from the client closet. The rich velvet against the warm wood tones and modern library shelves looked absolutely incredible and added such a timeless, luxurious feel to the session.

One of my favorite things about this location is how versatile it is. Within just one building, we were able to create such different looks and moods without ever needing to travel far. Between the floating lights, oversized staircases, massive windows, modern shelving, and outdoor architectural details, there was inspiration literally everywhere I turned.

Safe to say… I already want to shoot here again 😂

After exploring the library and creating all these stunning maternity portraits, we finished Brooke’s session back at my studio with a few intimate photos alongside her husband. I always love ending sessions this way because it slows everything down a little and captures the connection between the two of them before they officially become parents.

There’s something so special about documenting this in-between season of life — the anticipation, excitement, and quiet moments before baby arrives.
