When should I book my Cake Smash Session?
Cake Smash Sessions are typically photographed when your child is around 10–11 months old. This gives plenty of time to receive your images before their first birthday party, invitations, or celebration.
What is the difference between the Simple and Full Cake Smash Sessions?
The Simple Cake Smash is designed for parents who love a clean, timeless look and want the focus entirely on their child.
The Full Cake Smash Experience includes a fully customized themed setup, family photos, milestone portraits before the cake smash, a custom cake, and bubble bath photos after the smash.
Do I need to bring the cake?
Nope! The cake is included with both Cake Smash options. I’ll coordinate the design so it complements your session perfectly. I also have amazing bakers than can work around allergies and special requests.
Can I choose any theme?
Absolutely! Full Cake Smash Sessions are fully customized around your child’s personality, interests, or birthday theme. Whether you’re dreaming of race cars, dinosaurs, florals, princesses, construction, woodland animals, or something completely unique, I’ll create a setup just for them.
Are outfits included?
I have a selection of outfits and accessories available in the studio for babies, and I’m always happy to help with outfit recommendations if you’d prefer to bring your own.
Are family photos included?
Family photos are included with the Full Cake Smash Experience.
The Simple Cake Smash is a child-only session focused entirely on your little one’s milestone.
What if my child doesn’t like the cake?
Every child reacts differently to their Cake Smash Session. Some babies dive right in, while others are a little more cautious.
If your little one has a favourite snack, I recommend bringing it along. Cheerios, puffs, berries, or other small snacks can easily be tucked behind the cake to encourage curious little fingers and smiles.
The goal isn’t to force your child to eat the cake—it’s simply to capture their personality and celebrate this milestone in a fun way.
What happens after the cake smash?
With both sessions we finish with a fun bubble bath cleanup, which is often one of the cutest parts of the entire session and gives us even more variety in your final gallery.
How should we prepare for the session?
Don’t worry—I won’t leave you guessing! Every Cake Smash client receives a detailed Cake Smash Preparation Guide before their session.
The guide includes tips on how to prepare your little one, what to bring, outfit recommendations, and ways to help your child feel comfortable during the session.
I also recommend bringing:
• A favourite toy or comfort item
• Extra clothes for your child
• A change of clothes for parents if participating in family photos
• Any favourite snacks your child loves
Cake Smash Sessions can get wonderfully messy, so it’s always best to come prepared for a little frosting and fun!
