Okay, it is so me to share their newborn session first before even posting their gender reveal or maternity photos… but honestly, this entire journey deserved its own moment because it was just that special.

Brooke and Allan’s story leading up to their baby girl has been such a beautiful one to capture. While they chose to do a private gender reveal with their family (which I absolutely love), they also wanted to do a styled gender reveal photoshoot to share their big news with everyone—and let me tell you, it turned out so good.

We planned everything around a cozy fall aesthetic to match their vibe. Instead of the typical pink or blue, they went with something way more unique and on-theme—orange smoke for a girl and green for a boy, tying perfectly into the pumpkin fall concept. And yes… I added a little Photoshop magic to enhance the smoke for that extra WOW factor because we are nothing if not a little dramatic in the best way 😏✨

And can we talk about timing for a second? Brooke nailed it with wanting her fall maternity photos done early. Since she knew she’d be in her third trimester during the cold, snowy months (hello Alberta winters 🥶), we planned ahead and captured this session earlier than the typical 28–32 week window so she could still get those dreamy autumn tones she had her heart set on.

The weather absolutely showed off for us. We got that dreamy golden sunset, the leaves were the perfect mix of warm tones, and everything just felt so cozy and romantic. Honestly, it was giving Pinterest board goals without even trying.

One of my favorite parts of this session was how personal they made it. Brooke brought along their ultrasound photos, as well as a few tiny outfits and baby shoes she had already picked out for their little girl. Those little details? They make such a difference. They turn a beautiful session into something that feels deeply meaningful and uniquely you.

And of course, we had to include the pumpkin from their gender reveal—because I’m all about tying sessions together and creating a story across your maternity and newborn photography experience. It’s those little touches that make your gallery feel cohesive from bump to baby.

Now, even though we did this session early to capture those fall vibes, we didn’t skip out on doing maternity photos at the proper time. Later on, we also did a studio maternity session when Brooke was further along, which gave us a completely different feel—soft, intimate, and focused fully on her and that beautiful bump.

And honestly? I love that we did both.

The outdoor session captured the season, the excitement, and the announcement… while the studio session captured the quiet anticipation and connection right before baby arrived. It’s the perfect example of how your story doesn’t have to fit into one single session—you can document it in layers.

Now here’s the part that makes this all hit a little deeper for me…

I’ve known Brooke my whole life. Our moms were best friends, and even though I moved away to Las Vegas for 10 years growing up, we always stayed connected. And now here we are—30 years later—raising our babies at the same time. It’s wild, emotional, and honestly just really, really special.

Jasper had the best time during this session too. He was running around Fish Creek Provincial Park with “Auntie K” and “Uncle Broc,” living his absolute best life while I worked. Watching him be part of these moments makes me so excited for the future—he’s definitely going to be my little assistant one day (whether he likes it or not 😂).

It’s actually kind of crazy to think that I’m already booking for both Spring and Fall due dates right now. This year is going to be full of the most beautiful maternity and newborn sessions, and if this one is any indication… we are in for a really magical season 🤍

I’ve been a professional photographer for over 5 years, and I truly believe I was born in the wrong era.
