When the Cats Steal the Show | A Cozy Lifestyle Newborn Session in Calgary

One of my favorite things about lifestyle newborn sessions is that they capture families exactly as they are in this season of life. The tiny newborn stretches, feeding breaks, nursery cuddles, proud parents soaking everything in… and apparently, very opinionated cats who believe they should also be the center of attention 😂

This sweet in-home newborn session honestly had me smiling the entire time because every time I turned around, one of the cats had somehow made their way into the photos. Curled up beside baby. Supervising from the windowsill. Sneaking into family portraits. At one point, I’m pretty sure they fully believed the photoshoot was actually for them.

And honestly? I loved every second of it.

That’s the magic of lifestyle newborn photography. It’s not about perfectly posed props or forcing every detail to look untouched. It’s about documenting what life genuinely feels like during those first few weeks at home with your baby.

Their home had the softest natural light pouring through the windows which gave everything such a warm and cozy feel. We kept the session relaxed and baby-led, moving through different spaces naturally while documenting all those little in-between moments that parents never want to forget.

And while yes… their baby was absolutely adorable, I have to admit the cats definitely earned honorary model status by the end of the session.

One of the reasons I love offering lifestyle newborn sessions is because they tell a fuller story. Years from now, these photos won’t just remind them what their baby looked like — they’ll remember their first home together, the feeling of rocking their newborn in the nursery at 2 AM, and even the family pets who were there for it all from the very beginning.

Those little details become part of the memories too.
